About Masterworks of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra
We are community-based group, dedicated to performing the great works of the Western Classical tradition, particularly sacred works for choir and orchestra. We have a strong commitment to artistic excellence and are proud to preserve and continue a great musical tradition. Masterworks performs in Oakville churches, each of which host and produce our concerts themselves, with the assistance of Masterworks' dedicated team of volunteer administrators. Masterworks exist with the enthusiasm of its choristers and orchestra players, which is the hallmark of its performances.
Historical background of Oakville Chorus and Orchestra
Masterworks is an outgrowth of concerts given by St. Andrew's Concert series, which is based in St. Andrew's Catholic Church (www.saintandrewchurchoakville.com ). In the spring of 2000 the Concert Series invited Charles Demuynck and the Oakville Chamber Orchestra to perform Handel's Messiah, with an ecumenical choir organized by Joyce Sitarski. This can be regarded as the seminal project which eventually has become Masterworks. There was a gap of 5 years until the next concert, while Charles was teaching at Universities in Indiana and Louisiana. Again in April 2005 St. Andrew's Concert Series produced The Messiah, which was under the administrative leadership of Brian Isherwood. Since then Masterworks' activities have accelerated greatly.
